When organic matter decays and fish waste is produced phosphates are released into the water and can cause undesirable algae as well as inhibit the growth of hard corals. Tap water can be a source of phosphates, in which case it must be pre-treated before adding it to the aquarium. Test as needed. For both Freshwater and Saltwater aquariums.
